In Loving Memory of Melvin "Mel" Cole
12-16-1960 to 11-10/2024

Las Vegas lost one of its most treasured souls with the passing of Melvin "Mel" Cole. Mel was a man whose light, kindness, and sense of humor brightened the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He left this world far too soon, but his legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to inspire and unite us.

Mel was the kind of person who made everyone feel like they mattered. He had a gift for connecting with people, creating meaningful friendships, and building a chosen family that spanned the vibrant Las Vegas community and beyond. As a proud gay man, Mel embraced his identity and became a symbol of strength, compassion, and joy for so many. He lived his truth unapologetically, paving the way for others to do the same.

Mel faced life with courage and grace, even in the face of adversity. His battle with throat cancer was marked by an unshakable resilience and a fierce determination to keep smiling, laughing, and sharing his love with the world. He never let challenges define him—instead, he showed us all what it means to live with dignity and purpose.

For those of us who knew and loved Mel, he was more than just a friend. He was a mentor, a confidant, a cheerleader, and often the life of the party. Whether he was swapping stories, organizing a night out, or simply offering a listening ear, Mel had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the room.

Everyone who loved Mel is invited to join us as we celebrate his incredible life and honor the lasting impact he had on so many:

"The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively."
— Bob Marley

A Community United for Mel

Mel’s journey was marked by his bravery and the overwhelming love and support of those around him. As Mario Cole wrote in a GoFundMe campaign created to support Mel during his illness:

"Mel is an amazing person who has always been there for others, spreading kindness and positivity wherever he goes. Now, Mel needs our help. Recently, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and is facing an incredibly tough journey, including the removal of his voice box and vocal cords. The financial strain of this battle has been overwhelming, but if there’s one thing we know about Mel, it’s that he is a fighter."

This campaign sought to raise funds to help Mel cover his medical expenses and alleviate the financial burden, allowing him to focus on his health and healing. The outpouring of love, generosity, and kind words from the community during this time was a testament to how deeply Mel was loved and how profoundly he touched the lives of others.

Mel, you will be forever missed, but the love and light you brought to this world will live on in all of us.

Share moments you had with Mel that be displayed on his memorial page.
